137th Airlift Wing ANG Will Rogers IAP, Oklahoma City, Oklahoma C-130H 185th Airlift Squadron

The 185th AS is the wing's operational unit and flies the C-130H. The unit was formed as the 185th Night Pursuit Squadron in 1918 with the Sopwith Camel and was called to active duty during World War II. It was federalized as the 185th Fighter Squadron in February 1947 at Westheimer Field, Norman, OK with P-51Ds. The squadron moved to Will Rogers Airport in September 1949, becoming the 185th TRS in February 1951 with RF-51Ds. The unit was mobilized in May 1951 with RF-80As operated, until a return to state control with reversion to F-51Ds and a redesignation to 185th Fighter-Bomber Squadron. The unit converted to the F-80B/C in April 1953 and changed designation to the 185th FIS, with F-86Ls operated from May 1958. The unit became the 185th Air Transport Squadron in April 1961, initially with the C-97F and later with the C-97G. The unit was redesignated the 185th TAS in December 1974 with the C-130A, upgrading to the C-130H in mid-1979.
